V3, I52
I started Thursday! three years ago with a very definite idea of what I wanted the newsletter to be. Not long after, I changed it to the next thing I most definitely wanted Thursday! to be. That lasted roughly a year before I changed it again, then one more time. Usually, a big format change is death for a newsletter — any online publication, really. There are a lot of things out there for you to read and places for you to spend your very valuable time. I had no expectation at all that anyone would stick around. Why would you? I still wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to make of Thursday! nor of the creative stuff I was doing (or, for periods of time, not doing). Why in the world would anyone follow my stumbling and bumbling?
I’ll be honest. I am surprised every time one of you amazing folks sends me a note of encouragement. It makes my heart happy to know that you like my poetry and my stories. I’ve started to branch out into other things and you like some of that, too.
I don’t really have anything better to say to you this week than thank you. Thank you for sticking with me through the changes and the doubts and the insecurities. Thank you for taking the time to visit the little worlds I invent and for letting me share the way I see the world with you. Thank you for encouraging me and telling me what you like and what you don’t like. Thank you for your patronage that gets me closer to doing this all the time for a living. Thank you for trusting me with your time and with your imaginations. Thank you for nudging me to do more and different things and for digging them when I do. Thank you for sharing your own creative work with me. You’re doing great and I want to see more of it so I can thank you even more.
See you next week for the beginning of Volume 4.
Two stories after the jump. Subscribers should keep their eyes peeled for something a little special sometime over the weekend, assuming I have time to work it up. Right now, chances are 50/50. Still, I’m going to try hard.
My dream is to support my family with my art. Can such a thing be done? Yes! But I need your help.
Upgrade to a paid membership to Thursday! or consider a Founding Membership! You can choose any amount above $65 a year, not just the suggested $240.
